spoiler alert
I’m really bad at surprises— being surprised, or allowing others to be surprised.
That’s why I had to leave the room while he watches Psycho in the other room. I love that movie to pieces (pun intended) but he’s never seen it before, and I’m beside myself with inability to point out all the ways in which Hitchcock indicates that Norman and The Mother are the same person using genius visual clues and trickery.
Why do people keep saying Norman is crazy? It’s the mom!
Man, Norman’s got himself a problem! How’s he going to stop his mother?
I’m practically biting my clenched knuckles.
Wow, I didn’t realize that it was the mother that stabbed Marian in the shower!
I faint with eagerness to give the plot away. But no. No, I won’t ruin this.

back when I still lived at home, hat movie came on and my mother smiled, patted the couch and invited me to “come watch [my] future” with her.

Wait…how does anyone over the age of 22 NOT know the twist in this movie? It’s like someone not knowing Rosebud was Kane’s sled, isn’t it?
